Laura Fong-Yee Interview (2008)
How were you introduced to skateboarding? What got you started?
I watched the X Games and my Dad gave my BMX bike to charity because I snuck out at night and blades were too expensive. So my skateboard was what was left.
What was your first set up?
$35 X Games board from Target.
What is the best and worst thing about your hometown?
The best is Miami has a lot of underground spots that are starting to blow up. The worst is it doesn’t have the coverage and exposure it should be getting.
Besides skateboarding, what do you like to do in your spare time?
College, studying nursing is hard. I go to the gym a few times a week.
Top 5 skateboarders of all time?
Lutzka, P-Rod, D-Way, Mullen and Daewon.
Top 5 skate videos of all time?
Yeah Right, New Blood, First Love, Skate More and 411VM.
Favorite new trick or trick you want to learn?
I just got full cabs and backside 360s. I’m close to landing 360 flips.
Do you prefer to skate with guys or girls?
I just want to skate with anyone. I don’t get hyped when I skate by myself.
Describe your dream session.
Landing all my stuff and having a kick ass time.
What kind of music have you been listening to lately?
Killswitch Engage.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m a little shy. I hope to have a career as a flight nurse and still be able to skate.
What do you have planned for this year?
Get good grades, film for the Ironic video and land new tricks.
Shout outs and thanks?
Thanks to everyone who supports me. Cody at Ironic Skateboards. Ray, Hector, Ryu, and all my friends. Amy Caron for helping me get my board into Tampa Pro. Thanks to Lisa for making this interview and the VVC video. Thank you for reading my interview.
