Sarah Meurle Interview (March 2009)
How were you introduced to skateboarding and what got you started?
Some friends were into it, seemed like fun so I tried and was stoked on it. Me and my Dad built a quarterpipe in our attic.
Do you remember what your first setup was?
My very first was just some rubbish 20 dollar board from the sports shop.
Were there any early influences on your skating?
I was just having fun with my friends, we influenced each other.
How is the skate scene in Sweden?
It’s a nice vibe, the scene is getting bigger, with more concrete parks and more support from the government. There are some spots to find mostly in Malmo and Stockholm, most other spots are kind of rugged.
What is the best and worst thing about your hometown?
I’ll consider Malmo as my hometown then, I’d say the best thing is the concrete parks during the summer, and the worst is to transportation by bus, hate that.
Besides skateboarding, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Shoot photos, draw, listen to good music and hang out with friends.
What is your typical day like?
Wake up 7:30am to an annoying alarm clock, take the train to Malmo and go to school which is at the indoor skatepark, so there’s classrooms to the right, and skatepark and cafè to the left. Have some class, or photography, then skate some if I feel like it. End school, go to a friends place and chill, and see what the day offers.
Do you prefer to skate with guys or girls?
Both, anyone who is up for it.
Where do you like to skate?
The streets of Barcelona, or Stalin Square in Prague is a good one. The concrete parks in Malmo.
Who do you like to skate with?
Funny friends.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Music with a good vibe or that brings me good memories. I really like soul and jazz like Nina Simone, and the Shaolin volumes, hiphop preferably from the 90’s or french rap. J Dilla is always good… reggae I prefer roots, and other than that I like music like Neil Young or some stuff like The Knife. etc, etc..
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I´m really bad at lying, I can hardly even tell a lie if it´s a joke.
So far, what have been the highlights of your skateboarding career?
2008 was great.
What do you have planned for this year?
Brazil was my first trip, then finish high school in June, enjoy the Swedish summer, travel in Europe and skate alot. Just keep on doing whatever I’ve been doing, probably visit Rockstar in New York.
Shout outs and thanks?
Thanks to my sponsors and shout out to my friends, family and all the nice people I’ve met along the way.
