Abby Zsarnay Interview (2012)
How were you introduced to skateboarding and what got you started?
I grew up with 3 older boys as their mom babysat me starting at the age of 2. They were involved in all of the action sports and started me off by dressing me up in their football gear and pushing me down a home-made skate ramp.
Do you remember what your first setup was?
A Powel deck with Reds bearing and Independent trucks.
Were there any early influences on your skating?
The 3 boys that became the brothers I never had.
What is the best and worst thing about your hometown?
Best thing is it’s small, worst thing is it’s small.
Besides skateboarding, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to hang out with my friends and play video games with my mom.
What is your typical day like?
Go to school, go skating, go home and do homework, hang out with my parents.
Where do you like to skate?
Ojai skatepark.
Do you like skating contests? Favorite contest?
I love to skate contests. The more the better. My favorite would be the World Cup series of contests.
Where has skateboarding allowed you to travel? Which is your favorite?
Skating in contests have taken me to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Florida, and all over California. Oregon is my favorite state to skate in because of all the awesome parks in every town.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
I would like to go to New Zealand. I have heard that it is awesome there.
What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to mostly rock music, but a mix of everything except for country.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
Hmm…. Most skate friends don’t know that I am a good student in school and that I am going to major in Math in college.
So far, what have been some of the highlights of your skateboarding?
I placed 3rd for the year in the 2011 World Cup Bowl Riders series, and I placed 1st in the Concrete Rodeo National Finals in 2009.
What do you have planned for this year?
I plan on competing in as many contests as I can and just continuing to progress.
