Izy Mutu Interview (2012)
How were you introduced to skateboarding and what got you started?
My big bro, I guess I always wanted to do what he did.
Do you remember what your first setup was?
I shared/borrowed my bro’s for a bit, then got a sweet Warehouse board (New Zealand’s Walmart) that the wheels didn’t turn.
Were there any early influences on your skating?
Just my older brother at first. He boardslid my mums car once in the front yard. She wasn’t too impressed. Haha!
What is the best and worst thing about your hometown?
The best is my family and friends, the worst is not much is left there after the earthquake.
Besides skateboarding, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Shoot shit with my sling/bow, instagram everything @izymo, party and have fun.
What is your typical day like?
On the weekdays I work, then skate at night when it cools down. On the weekend I try to get as far away from the Gold Coast as possible, skate new stuff, meet rad people and have a good time.
Where do you like to skate?
Pizzeeey. I just skated Belco bowl the other week that was amazing! Burnside, I could live there. Oregon….
Do you like skating contests?
They’re ok. The part I love most is getting to see everyone, hanging out and the after party!
Where has skateboarding allowed you to travel? Which is your favorite?
Here to Australia, where i’ve stayed and over to USA. I love Oregon!
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?
I want to go everywhere! Sweeden sounds amazing from what I’ve heard. It would be sick to see Greece and the epic buildings. I’d go back to Oregon anyday and I think Brazil would be epic too.
What kind of music do you listen to?
Almost everything.. I love music. It’d be cool to play music, but I don’t think I have the patience to learn. Alot of metal, but alot of everything. Hopefully going to Black Sabbath next year, super hyped!
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I suck at speaking… wait maybe they do know that.
So far, what have been some of the highlights of your skateboarding?
Meeting all the most awesomest people I know.
What do you have planned for this year?
Try to not be on the Gold Coast and check out some more of Australia that I haven’t seen. Just enjoy life really.
Shout outs and thanks?
Thanks to all my mates and everyone who is awesome and rides these silly wooden toys too! They’re lots of fun!
