Arianna Carona Interview (2013)

How were you introduced to skateboarding and what got you started?

When I was little my aunt used to ride around with me on the front of her longboard, then when I got older she took me to Barb Odnaka’s Mighty Mama Skate-o-Rama event and I loved it and began skating.

Do you remember what your first setup was?

I had two. One was those cheap boards you buy from Target and it was Sponge Bob. My other was an Identity board and I’m not sure about the trucks, hardware, or wheels.

Were there any early influences on your skating?

Yeah, the fact that my sister skated and my mom and my other aunts did too. What is the best and worst thing about your hometown? The best thing is that it’s not that far from Vans and its close to a lot of things. There really isn’t anything bad about it.

Besides skateboarding, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I hang out with my friends a lot. I just go walk or skate somewhere with them and have fun.

What is your typical day like?

Well, when I don’t have school it’s wake up, eat, get dressed, go skate for a long time, come back, eat, shower, sleep, and repeat.

Where do you like to skate?

I like to skate anywhere.

Do you like skating contests? Favorite contest?

Yes. I love to compete because it is a great learning experience. I have two favorite contests and they are Girls Combi Classic and Exposure 2012.

Where has skateboarding allowed you to travel? Which is your favorite?

For a contest, I went to San Jose but for fun, I went to Oregon.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

I think I would love to go to Hawaii.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I don’t listen to a specific kind, but I really like Blink 182 and Secondhand Serenade.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I guess it would be that I’m a great climber or that I can touch my tongue to my nose.

So far, what have been some of the highlights of your skateboarding?

I have a lot, but the biggest highlight was winning Girls Combi Classic.

What do you have planned for this year?

I have a lot planned. Just skate a lot and work hard.
